Green office expert to speak on BREEAM rated office fit out

Facilities management professionals at an upcoming conference will learn how a sustainable office fit out, designed along the principles of the BREEAM environmental rating system, can deliver value within the workplace.
Sophie Hutchinson, sustainability manager at office design and fit out company Morgan Lovell, will present at, the facilities management conference ThinkFM hosted by the British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM) in April 2011 in Nottingham. The theme of this year’s conference is “Delivering Value in Facilities Management - innovation and adaptation for today’s economics”.
Sophie, a BREEAM-trained authority on green office design who is also a SKA assessor, will be speaking on “Designing in BREEAM to achieve a sustainable office environment”, and how this can add value and provide a noticeable return on investment.
“Green offices are often considered to be the more expensive option,” says Sophie, “So many facilities managers might not believe they are an effective way to add value within the workplace.
“However, planned well in advance and done properly, a sustainable office fit out or refurbishment doesn’t have to cost much more than its traditional alternative, and can provide a considerable return on investment. My session at ThinkFM is hopefully going to demonstrate that sustainability and value go hand-in-hand.”
ThinkFM will take place over two days at the East Midlands Conference Centre in Nottingham from 5-6 April 2011. This year the conference programme is being split into four ‘hubs’ running concurrently so that delegates can pick and choose the sessions they wish to attend. Sophie will be speaking from 2-2.45pm on 5 April,is part of the ‘Actions Not Words’ hub.
Morgan Lovell is leading the way in terms of sustainability within the workplace. Their own London headquarters was the first in the UK to receive a BREEAM rating of ‘Excellent’ for an office refurbishment of its type. As Morgan Lovell’s sustainability manager, Sophie works to ensure that the company continues to push the boundaries of what is possible in workplace sustainability, both internally and for clients looking to design and build a green office.
Designing along the principles of the BREEAM system, which promotes energy saving technology and more sustainable working, companies can have an office environment that saves money whilst simultaneously saving the planet.
