Morgan Lovell’s podcast looks at ‘green’ office furniture
Press release
Published on 20.09.2010
Bright ideas from contemporary workplace seating manufacturer Orangebox on protecting the planet - and ways to avoid furniture being discarded to landfill - are featured in the latest episode of the Green Office podcast, from office design experts Morgan Lovell.
The episode centres on a tour of Orangebox’s Mid Glamorgan manufacturing centre based in Wales, and reports on how the company has a holistic approach to sustainability.
In the report, Ewan Tozer, the company’s commercial director, explains how the Welsh company has a common sense and cost-effective approach to sustainability.
Initiatives include fitting their chairs with replaceable covers - which are the thing most likely to wear out quickly - therefore extending the life of the seating.
Material offcuts are sent to the Midlands to make emergency blankets and all glues are solvent-free and water-based.
Orangebox - which has secured a wealth of ‘green’ accolades including the Wales Environment Award and the Green Dragon Environmental Standard - also takes back its old chairs from companies when they order new replacements - and has a carefully managed transport policy to maximise environmental efficiencies.
Ewan said: “Most environmental initiatives make good business sense as they reduce waste and can save money.”
