Green office podcast sounds out BREEAM

Press release

Published on 25.05.2010

The environmental rating tool BREEAM from the BRE is put under the spotlight in a podcast from green office design experts, Morgan Lovell.

The podcast is the second in the Green Office series, being produced bi-monthly by Morgan Lovell, where listeners can hear about the latest trends, technology and people in the world of green office design.

Martin Townsend, the director of BREEAM at the BRE, starts off this latest episode, explaining how BREEAM - short for the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method - is helping to future-proof buildings and instil a conscientious effort among design professionals to include sustainability at an early stage in their building projects.

Podcast presenter Paul Kelly then sets off on a visit to London’s Charles Darwin House, a 1959 building in Roger Street, WC1 that was recently awarded a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating for its ‘green’ refurbishment project, undertaken by Morgan Lovell.

Listeners are taken on a tour of the building, which is home to three learned societies; the British Ecological Society, the Society for Experimental Biology and the Biochemical Society. Dr Hazel Norman, executive director at the British Ecological Society provides fascinating insight into how inspirational design has helped the project achieve the challenging green standard.
