Morgan Lovell seminar maps breeam route for older buildings

Press release

Published on 24.09.2010

Office design and refurbishment company Morgan Lovell is hosting a new seminar exploring how older buildings can be transformed into sustainable workplaces that support the environment.

Achieving A High BREEAM Rating In Older Buildings takes place on Tuesday, 16 November 2010, between 8:30am and 10:30am, at The British Ecological Society, Charles Darwin House, in Roger Street, London.

Delegates will be able to see first hand how a green office can be developed in a building constructed nearly 60 years ago. Charles Darwin House - built in the 1950s - now boasts a BREEAM Excellent rating following a recent office fit out by Morgan Lovell.

Registration to the seminar is free at www.morganlovell.com/events, but spaces are limited.

The event begins with a look at the early design stage with Morgan Lovell’s BREEAM and LEED accredited designer Adrian Norman outlining the main features of BREEAM accredited office design and the key points to consider, using real life examples.

A relocation case study will then be presented by Hazel Norman, executive director of the British Ecological Society. Relocating to Charles Darwin House and incorporating sustainable elements generated many challenges for the Society and Hazel will share her experience through an in-depth account of the office relocation from initial concept through to actually moving in. She will also talk about how the BREEAM Excellent rating was achieved.

Finally, delegates can take part in a guided tour of the British Ecological Society’s offices, with the chance to see many of the sustainable initiatives highlighted in the case study.

Andrew Bradley, managing director of Morgan Lovell, said: “It is often thought that achieving a high BREEAM rating is only possible in new buildings, but this seminar shows it is possible to transform an older workplace into a model of sustainability.”

Morgan Lovell’s Green Office podcasts include an interview with Hazel Norman and an in-depth look at BREEAM. To download these and other episodes, log on to http://www.morganlovell.com/podcasts or subscribe via iTunes.
