Brighten Your Office to Stave Off the Winter Blues
Thursday 15th November 2007
As the nights draw in, offices can feel grey - but a few easy steps can help staff beat the winter blues.
A happy workforce is a productive workforce, but now the clocks have gone back and the nights are long, office workers’ productivity can slump.
Office transformation specialists Morgan Lovell have come up with a handy checklist to help bosses keep staff morale and creativity high.
Tips range from simply cleaning the windows to installing reflective wall coverings.
Karen Hamilton, Morgan Lovell Project Designer, said: “It is important to keep staff stimulated during the winter months to stop productivity tailing off in the afternoons as the nights draw in.
“Managers should look at getting as much natural light into the building as possible and introducing items such as a large summery image to keep spirits raised.”
Morgan Lovell’s top tips include:
• Clean the windows and remove clutter from the window areas
• Open the blinds whenever possible and rearrange desks so that they do not suffer from glare from the windows when the blinds are open
• Add task lighting to each desk
• Change the main lighting to 'day-light' bulbs
• Paint a wall red, to stimulate energy
• Install a large natural summer or springtime image
• Apply a metallic or reflective wall covering on a wall
