Opening doors
Penningtons had outgrown their old Newbury premises and relocated to a self-contained building formerly owned by Vodafone. They asked us to design a stylish but professional environment that was cost-effective for all partners funding the development.
The Morgan Lovell approach
We created a ground floor and reception space that would impress clients and make them feel comfortable. We produced client meeting rooms, a kitchen and a partners' dining room, which doubled as another meeting place. And we fitted a post room and deeds store near reception but away from client areas. Penningtons teams and partners were given open plan office space on the first two floors, plus access to quiet rooms for extra privacy. With a set budget in mind, we devoted higher quality finishes to client areas as compared with staff areas. So on staff floors we used existing ceilings but replaced the tiles, while on the ground floor we put in new suspended ceilings and lighting. In reception, we made a huge Penningtons' logo of polished plaster to give a wonderful visual backdrop for staff and visitors entering the building.
An office transformed
Our approach has transformed Penningtons' working environment from disjointed cellular offices spread over four floors to a more effective open plan layout, which has greatly improved interaction between teams.
