2010 'could prove tricky for office interior construction'

The upcoming 12 months could be a difficult period for the UK construction sector, it has been stated.
Brian Berry, director of external affairs at the Federation of Master Builders, said 2010 is likely to be a rocky ride for modern office design developers, as there is the chance that a lot of developments will dry up as the year progresses after the continuing fall in output over recent months.
He commented: "You will probably see a tightening of conditions in the repair and maintenance sector, added to which - with the general election coming up - we are probably going to see cuts in capital expenditure."
According to the latest Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply/Markit Construction Purchasing Managers' Index, UK construction activity declined in December 2009 for the 22nd consecutive month.
However, a rise in residential construction activity was reported, extending the period of growth to four consecutive months.
