A new £30 million project has been put forward in St Helens that is set to create 120,000 sq ft of office space for local businesses.

The Empress Park development has already received £4 million from the European Regional Development Fund for the creation of new office interior space, with 72,000 sq ft of the development already achieving a BREEAM rating of Excellent.

Director of the European programme David Malpass said: "I am delighted to mark the start of work at Empress Park. In utilising the area for industrial and business use, the former colliery will ultimately create thousands of jobs for the area."

He added that the project could be of great benefit to the area and has the potential to create thousands of new jobs.

Elsewhere, the South Preston Office Village has received planning permission to go ahead with the £8 million development, set to deliver new offices ranging from 750 to 6,000 sq ft just south of the city.
