Administration fees can be a stumbling block for some developers in embracing sustainable office design, it has been stated.
John Tebbit, industry affairs director at the Construction Products Association, said builders can often be torn between the costs involved in installing sustainable measures and the tightening of budgets given the present economic situation.
He commented: "Admin costs actually stop you doing things which are more sustainable and that applies all the way through."
The Department of Energy and Climate Change introduced its Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme on April 1st.
In it, it outlined how organisations and feed-in tariffs will help to save money on fuel bills, reduce carbon emissions and generate their own low-carbon electricity. It forms part of the UK's commitment to reduce its carbon output by 50 per cent by 2050.
