UK-based insurance firm Aviva - formerly known as Norwich Union - has announced it is to move from its present headquarters in Norwich city centre.

The firm has been the largest employer in the city for the last 300 years and plans to keep this tradition alive by moving to new premises at Broadland Business Park on the Norwich bypass.

In total, the company has taken on 173,000 sq ft of modern office design space at the site, with Norwich philanthropist Graham Dacre - rated 875th in the Sunday Times Rich List - rumoured to have paid £1.5 million for the firm's former premises at 20 Rouen Road. He has also bought Aviva's 25-27 Surrey Street site.

Furthermore, the company's other premises at Temple House have been put up for auction and will be marketed by Jones Lang LaSalle.

Aviva is presently the world's fifth-largest insurance group and employs 46,000 people. It has approximately 53 million customers worldwide and is the largest insurer in the UK.
