Aerospace and defence firm BAE Systems has announced it is to move into new headquarters at Highbridge's Radial 64 site in the north-east.
The company has signed a £33 million pre-letting agreement, with BAE Systems benefiting from 350,000 sq ft of modern office design and manufacturing facilities.
It is due for completion in February 2011 and will be leased to the company for 25 years.
BAE Systems' Simon Miller, the man in charge of planning for the new development, commented: "The site is closer to where most of our employees live and on the coast-to-coast cycle track, so many plan to bike to work."
Elsewhere, Newcastle-based business Houghton International recently announced plans to double its office space over the next 18 months.
The firm hopes to create an additional 10,000 sq ft of office space at its headquarters on Tyneside, with further plans for development at the premises already in the pipeline.
