Bannatyne's Health Clubs has announced the submission of a planning application for a new four-storey office building in Darlington.
The proposed site for the office construction project has been disused for almost 100 years - having last been home to the Darlington Corporation Bus depot between 1911 and 1915.
In total, the project hopes to deliver up to 2,000 sq m of new office space and will become the headquarters for the company in the town.
A spokesperson for the firm told the Northern Echo that it is common in business for firms to submit holding applications of this type.
Elsewhere in the town, Beaumont House on Beaumont Street is to become the new headquarters of sub-sea engineering, technology and investment business Tompkins UK.
Work at the property is costing £1 million and a complete refurbishment of the premises is due to be completed by Christmas.
