The British Council for Offices (BCO) has unveiled the 2010 winner of its Best Commercial Workplace award.

The 12-storey office building 11 Brindley Place in Birmingham came out on top and also achieved the Best of the Best accolade from the organisation. The awards all go to standout commercial properties outside of London.

John Forrester, BCO Awards chairman, said: "[The property] sets an impressive benchmark for new office development not only in the Midlands but nationally. It is undoubtedly a standout project."

The property is rated BREEAM Excellent.

Other winners included the Broadgate Building in Leeds and the West Lothioan Civic Centre in Livingston.

Meanwhile, the BCO recently released a report highlighting the impressive stature of British offices in comparison to other countries around the world.

The International Office Space - A Tale of Six Cities report showed the UK is the only country to presently have in place guidelines for the creation of high-quality office space as standard.
