BCO poll on office renewables
Office design news from Morgan Lovell
Published on 22-08-2006
The British Council for Offices (BCO) has launched a poll on its website posing the question: "Do you believe that the current targets for the use of renewables in commercial development are achievable?"
Currently just under half of the responses have stated that that the targets are achievable, with a notable number of people not really knowing what the targets are.
When questioned, the BCO stated that industry standard targets were set and the poll was there to see if members knew about it and to what degree they were engaged with the topic.
Sustainability is crucial to the future of office development. The government and its advisory body, the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE), are both working towards more sustainable design and construction.
CABE stated: "Buildings are responsible for no less than 40 per cent of the UK's carbon dioxide emissions, and are a major contributor to climate change.
"The need to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions from buildings is one of the most pressing and high profile environmental concerns."
Good office design can prepare a business for the future and ensure the success of a company's premises.
