Birmingham 'could receive new office space'
30-04-2008
Proposals for a new £160 million development in central Birmingham could lead to the city acquiring 285,000 sq ft of office space.Standing at some 441 ft tall, the building will replace the NatWest Tower on the corner of Colmore Row and Newhall Street if granted planning permission by Birmingham city council.
The 35-storey project is expected to feature retail space and a top floor restaurant, as well as incorporating contemporary office design.
Creating more than 2,500 jobs, there is expected to be strong demand for the space that the office layout will provide.
Local businessman Richard Wootton claimed that he would move his telecommunications firm to the new site "in the first instance", although construction of the building will not begin until the council's decision.
The planning application comes after British Land, owners of the site, launched a public consultation last autumn.
Earlier this year, it was revealed that welfare to work provider WorkDirections UK had moved into new facilities in Birmingham which had recently undergone an office refit and refurbishment programme.
