Television broadcaster BSkyB has begun work on its new studio which will feature a number of sustainable design aspects in order to improve energy efficiency and reduce upkeep costs.
A new £233 million headquarters is being created in Osterley, west London, which will utilise 80m-tall wind turbines providing natural ventilation for the structure and up to 90 per cent of all energy for lighting, according to Building.co.uk.
The structure has been named Harlequin 1 and the building's designers - Arup Associates - claim the structure will be the most energy-efficient studios in Europe and deliver 35 per cent energy usage reductions.
Paul Brislin, a director at Arup Associates and the architect for the scheme, told the website: "BSkyB is not after high-end corporate facilities - what it wants is to get the most out of its technology and that really drove the design."
Elsewhere in the capital, construction is preparing to get underway on the striking London Shard office building which once completed will offer up to 1.4 million sq ft of grade A office interior space.
