Budget announces £1bn fund for sustainable design

The Chancellor of the Exchequer Alistair Darling yesterday (April 22nd) announced a £1 billion fund to improve sustainable design and to promote greener industry in the UK.
He stated that this cash injection will help combat climate change and invigorate the construction industry to deliver more sustainable residential and commercial property in the months and years ahead.
Royal Town Planning Institute president Martin Willey commented: "The planning process looks at the evidence, reviews the options and impacts on society and then secures the framework for secure public and private investment."
In related news, Design Week recently reported that trade minister Mervyn Davies has hailed the recent G20 summit as key to improving the sustainable design provisions available in the UK.
He noted that sustainable design will become increasingly important in the years ahead and this latest meeting of world leaders has helped to pave the way for future green investment and design.
