More UK businesses are placing an importance on sustainable office design when it comes to choosing their premises, it has been claimed.
Speaking at the Sustainability Now event, Paul King, chief executive at the UK Green Building Council, said many firms now expect green features to be built into properties as standard, despite the fact that green buildings do not at present demand a significant premium in the marketplace.
He commented: "[Companies] can see the way government policy is heading with carbon taxes and other things, so people are thinking about future-proofing their business."
Mr King added that many businesses are taking sustainability a "lot more seriously" than they have done in the past.
Speakers at the Sustainability Now event included the Association for the Conservation of Energy, the UK Green Building Council, CB Richard Ellis and GVA Grimley.
Its aim is to provide the latest news and information on creating and sustaining a green built environment.
