Businesses 'set to embrace zero carbon'

Office design news from Morgan Lovell

Published on 18-11-2010

Businesses must tackle their existing office space to meet zero carbon guidelines if the government is to achieve its goals, it has been claimed.

Ant Wilson, director of sustainability at AECOM, said sustainable office design must be high on the agenda if zero carbon is to be implemented by the government's target date of 2019.

Indeed, while the majority of new-builds will be highly sustainable, it is in updating existing properties that the greatest challenge will lie.

He commented: "Every new building, even if it is zero carbon, does nothing to reduce our carbon. We have got to get into the existing stock."

The Energy Services and Technology Association debate was held at the City of Manchester Stadium on November 16th and was intended to identify the essentials that must lie at the foundation of any business' credible energy policy agenda.

Speakers included the Northwest Regional Development Agency, the M&C Energy Group and Siemens.
