The South East England Development Agency (Seeda) helped fund the new Canterbury Innovation Centre that has helped provide office space for entrepreneurs and academics over the last year.

In total, the project cost £7.3 million and has celebrated its first anniversary, with more than 40 businesses now based at the centre.

Seeda helped deliver the development - which opened its doors in November 2009 - but the property has more than exceeded expectations during the last 12 months, providing a tangible illustration of what can be achieved when companies are given the opportunity to flourish.

Canterbury Innovation Centre manager Jo Clark said: "We have had many enquiries from local businesses and also receive a lot of interest from international companies which demonstrates that the centre is already recognised as a global beacon for innovation."

Elsewhere, Her Majesty the Queen recently opened the new offices of accountancy business KPMG.

Situated at 15 Canada Square in Canary Wharf, the 15-storey property will house up to 4,000 members of staff and has been equipped with state-of-the-art sustainable office design features.
