Carbon neutral building 'biggest ever change'
14-05-2007
Carbon neutral construction is the most significant change the industry has ever faced, according to the Building Research Establishment (BRE).Spokesperson Gavin Hodgson comments that the development sector has never faced such a substantial shift as the move towards sustainability.
Mr Hodgson points out that training is important as the industry gears up to meet government targets for carbon neutral building.
"We've got a good idea of what it involves and how we can deliver it," he asserts.
"It's now up to working out the most cost-effective designs and getting the training provided on the ground level."
In particular, people working on building sites must be equipped with adequate levels of knowledge and skills, he maintains.
His comments come as an event organised by the Renewable Energy Association and based in Manchester's Co-operative Insurance Services' solar tower examines carbon neutral construction.
BRE states its aim as being recognised as a leader in the area of sustainability by 2015.
