A new Cardiff Waterfront development has been granted a BREEAM rating of Excellent.
The Energy Saving Trust has chosen the development at 3 Assembly Square as its new headquarters after the building scored a total of 74 per cent for sustainable design.
In total, the building will offer 66,250 sq ft of office interior space and will benefit from the installation of green technologies, such as a biomass boiler, chilled beams and rainwater harvesting.
Joy McSmythurs, partner at Knight Frank - joint letting agents for the building, told sustainable design magazine Green Building Press: "Office occupiers are increasingly interested in environmental sustainability, particularly since the 2006 Stern Report on reducing carbon emissions."
Meanwhile, Manchester Evening News recently reported that environmental consultant Hilson Moran has had planning permission granted for the construction of a low-energy office building in Rochdale.
Plans for the structure have shown that upon completion it will be six per cent more energy efficient than the required standard for naturally ventilated buildings in the UK.
