The 2009 Office Market Review from CB Richard Ellis (CBRE) has shown Manchester was one of the best cities for office uptake in the last year.
It revealed modern office design demand had been "robust" and the city saw 830,000 sq ft of office lettings throughout the year.
Will Kennon, associate director of office agency at CBRE, said: "2009 was a good year for the north-west occupational market, with robust demand and take-up in Manchester city centre from both private and public sectors."
He added that demand for quality stock remains positive in 2010, although just 30,000 sq ft of new uncommitted stock is scheduled for completion this year.
Elsewhere, the Office for National Statistics recently announced plans to move its backroom staff for next year's census to new office space at Trafford Park in Manchester.
The organisation will be moving into 180,000 sq ft of office space and believes the proposed relocation will also include the creation of up to 1,300 new jobs in the area.
