Charity office layouts 'should use natural light'
16-04-2008
Charities have been encouraged to focus their office design on the use of natural light, according to reports.A guide to energy-saving issued by the Carbon Trust, aimed specifically at charities and related to the office layout that such organisations may have, has suggested that they make the most of natural light in their workspaces.
"Thinking about how to improve the environmental sustainability of the way they work provides charities with a great opportunity to make an invaluable contribution towards protecting the planet and our environment," said charity commission chair Dame Suzi Leather, according to Third Sector.
Dame Suzi's comments formed part of the foreword to the Carbon Trust guide, which also includes a number of other tips to help organisations reduce energy use.
Labelling light switches so employees can know which ones they are switching on and whether they are necessary, as well as switching from desktop computers to laptops, which can be more energy efficient, are other suggested measures.
A piece in the Halifax Evening Courier recently suggested that the clocks be put forward a further hour in order to make the most of sunlight hours and therefore reduce energy use.
