Colleague behaviour 'stresses millions of Britons'
13-11-2007
The "infuriating and unfair" behaviour of co-workers irks some 27 million Britons, a new study suggests.Research by building society Britannia indicates that the top 'social crimes' that affect workers include using other people's possessions such as coffee mugs, leaving communal areas in a mess and having to listen to fellow employees talking loudly on their phones.
Managing director of member business at Britannia Tim Franklin commented: "It's concerning to see that so many of us are affected by the unfair behaviour of people at work.
"Considering we spend a large percentage of our time at work it's worrying that nearly all of us feel stressed and annoyed by the people we work with."
It may be argued that an innovative office layout that allows workers to have their own space and not be interrupted by noisy colleagues may improve performance.
Business Week recently reported that savvy firms take office layout into account when trying to encourage interaction between co-workers that can lead to improved morale.
