Firms across the UK could improve their sustainable office design credentials by upgrading their lighting, it has been claimed.
Paul Edwards, chair of the British Council for Offices' Environmental Sustainability Group and head of sustainability at Hammerson, said businesses could make savings both in terms of cost and emissions by updating their lighting solutions to more efficient products.
He commented: "With improvements in technology these days, for example, if you go from a T8 light fitting, which have slightly bigger tubes, to a T5 light fitting, you'll save 35 per cent instantaneously."
According to Electricity North West, companies in Greater Manchester are being asked to take part in a cutting-edge energy trial that will enable regional businesses and organisations to be paid to reduce their energy usage when capacity is needed to support the grid.
The trial is the first of its kind in the UK and will see incentives offered to firms to become part of the scheme.
