Council opts for office refurb

An office refurbishment progamme looks set to be carried out by Fylde Borough Council following the authority's decision not to go ahead with plans to construct an extension.

The changing economic circumstances of the past few years have led the council to decide not to go ahead with approved plans for an extension. Instead, a new office refurbishment programme is on the agenda.

Council leader David Eaves said that while a new town hall is not an option, doing nothing is also out of the question.

"Refurbishing the existing town hall will cost much less than the new-build option - meaning that it should be possible to invest any surplus receipts into improving services and other facilities," he said.

The sale of some of the council's assets is set to fund the refurbishment project. The current town hall - a former hotel - has a design that does not meet the needs or expectations of workers and the public, the council argued.

Following the office refurbishment programme, the council's office space is set to meet stricter environmental standards and offer more useable space.

Effective office space planning can allow firms to free up more room within an office, potentially negating the need to move location.
