CRC 'not a major driver for firms'

Office design news from Morgan Lovell

The introduction of the CRC scheme is not yet viewed as a major driver for sustainable office design for firms, it has been claimed.

Speaking at the Sustainability Now event, David Craven, senior associate for sustainability at Woods Bagot, said the initiative has yet to be fully embraced by businesses, with many preoccupied with other issues given the present economic situation in the UK.

He commented: "If the price [of carbon allowances] goes up - which everyone predicts that it will - then it may [become more important]."

Mr Craven added that, at the moment, CRC is not a major consideration for companies although this could change quickly in the future.

According to the Department of Energy and Climate Change, the CRC scheme is designed to incentivise large public and private sector organisations to take up cost-effective energy efficiency opportunities through the application of reputational and financial drivers.
