Companies across the UK have been advised there is a lot they can do with present technology to boost their sustainable office design.
Speaking at the Sustainability Now event, Adrian Penfold, head of planning and corporate responsibility at British Land, said a "huge amount" can be achieved at present, but the government needs to provide clearer guidelines as to what is expected of firms in terms of their green commitments.
He commented: "We need a sensible way of benchmarking the buildings and where they have got to; any transparency in the market around that is helpful in terms of occupier perceptions and landlord initiatives."
According to energy and climate change secretary Chris Huhne, the government proposes to set an ambitious target in law to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in line with advice from the independent Committee on Climate Change.
He made his comments in the House of Commons on Tuesday (May 17th) and stated that meeting the 1,950 million tonnes target that is proposed for the 2023-27 period is ambitious but achievable.
