Green energy company Ecotricity has announced an £8 million investment to design and build a new green headquarters in Stroud.
The firm currently employs 170 members of staff and hopes to expand over the next few years to more than 300. As a result, it is now in the process of applying for planning consent for the construction of a new HQ capable of housing this increased number of staff.
However, sustainable office design has been put at the forefront of the plans, with a number of green features being incorporated into the firm's design.
"Virtually all of the heating, cooling and lighting will come from natural sources around us and any more will be provided by what we know works best - a dedicated windmill hopefully nearby to the town," commented Ecotricity founder and managing director Dale Vince.
The company was set up in 1996 and in 2007 invested £25 million into wind energy in the UK. It has been in the business of providing ecologically-sound energy for over a decade and also specialises in the design and manufacture of wind turbine technology.
