31-08-2007
Some 19.5 per cent of employees has no access to a window from their workspace, according to a study by a Bath-based architecture firm. The Your Workspace survey was produced after consultation with 180 companies across the south-west of England.
Designed to investigate how office designs can support and enhance the welfare, enthusiasm and communication of employees, the study asked businesses to record their satisfaction with different aspects of their working environment.
It also revealed that 36.6 per cent of employees had no access to a view of green spaces from their windows and only 17 per cent of respondents rated the quality of air in their workplace as "comfortable".
Researcher on the study Jane Hamon told the Bath Chronicle: "Having access to a more relaxed space for breaks and meetings is so important for the wellbeing of staff, but also beneficial for the company."
Ms Hamon also noted a possible correlation between air quality and staff performance.
Canada Safety Council identifies air quality as possibly "the most important element" in keeping an office a pleasant and healthy place for employees.
