Employers 'could act to cut stress'

Employers can work to alleviate workplace stress, a new survey indicates.A new investigation from Peninsula UK suggests that 82 per cent of workers characterise themselves as "stressed", a figure the employment law consultancy claims could be lowered by management action.
Good channels of communication are highlighted by the organisation as one way in which pressure can be reduced, as well as ensuring that staff take appropriate breaks, reports Online Recruitment.
Managing director Peter Done told the publication: "Bosses need to ensure that their employees are taking the necessary breaks, allowing their staff chance to relax thus reducing tension."
His comments come after designer Jonathan Fong told Imperial Valley News that office design can help reduce levels of pressure experienced by employees.
The sector expert suggested that environment can alter mood and is a valuable way to tailor the atmosphere to cut stress levels.
Other advice issued by the Peninsula UK head included ensuring that the company is not attempting to function on a reduced amount of employees by overworking staff.
