The one key resource the UK has at its disposal in moving towards a low carbon economy is energy efficiency, according to one sector commentator, a point businesses may wish to take advantage of by creating a green office design.
Dr Neil Bentley, the business environment director of the Confederation of British Industry, said the current recession has meant that companies are increasingly looking to ways to reduce costs, although a sustainable office fit out may aid them in this goal.
He added that energy efficiency has proven to be workable and cost effective and can reduce overheads and the UK's reliance on an aging energy supply.
"It is a simple concept - it basically means wasting less energy. Or more precisely, consuming less energy to get the same amount of heat for your shower or light for your office," Dr Bentley explained.
A recent campaign launched by the Carbon Trust is also urging businesses to consider going green.
The trust claims that most businesses could save up to 20 per cent on energy bills by taking low cost or no cost action on energy efficiency.
