Environmental awareness 'can save a business money'

Sustainable office design and energy efficiency have been put forward as two of the main ways that firms can increase their bottom lines during the ongoing economic downturn.
Erica Russell, Business Link adviser, has said that making plans to become more energy-efficient can help save a firm money, as a reduction in overheads means margins can be improved.
She commented: "The brilliant thing for businesses is it doesn't have to be big companies that can make those savings."
In addition, Ms Russell claimed that companies which promote their own green credentials can see an improvement in consumer and client levels, as more and more businesses are choosing to work with green partners.
According to The Carbon Trust, companies could save the UK economy £1 billion a year by taking action to improve their energy efficiency.
The organisation recently launched its One Million A Day campaign, which aims to reduce UK carbon dioxide emissions by 17 million tonnes over the next three years.
