European office design 'attractive for investors'

Office space in Europe is presenting an attractive prospect to investors across the globe, it has been claimed.

Oliver Gilmartin, senior economist at the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Rics), said the yields for modern office design space that are presently on offer means many feel the bottom of the market is fast approaching, which could make the months ahead the perfect time for investment.

He commented: "In the rental side of the market, we need to see available space coming down first of all and that feeding through into rents, which will support investor appetite."

According to a recent report by Rics, investor activity in commercial property rose across 70 per cent of the globe in the fourth quarter of 2009.

It found that the increases in the UK market were led by investment in London, with the amount of available space in the capital declining during the quarter for the first time in two years.
