Government offices 'energy inefficient'
26-08-2008
The government offices which house the department responsible for reducing carbon emissions have been granted an F rating for energy efficiency by its own initiative.Currently being brought into force is a scheme which shows how energy efficient all buildings above 1,000 sq ft are. It rates them from A to G, much the same as ratings for fridge-freezers or cars.
Newbuilder.co.uk has reported that officials at the government office layout are currently planning to introduce changes which will see the building elevated from an F to a D rating.
The department commented in a statement: "Our rating for Eland House tells us we must clearly do better to make a difference to our energy performance. We are now acting on recommendations from our advisory report to help us improve future ratings."
In other news, a green office venture has been unveiled in Birmingham where the architect firm PCPT is planning to create a 13-storey office and apartment complex featuring wind-powered ventilation, rainwater recycling and solar water heating features.
