Government sustainability 'on the agenda'
13-08-2008
The government is set to review all its office interiors later this year as part of a move to improve environmental sustainability, according to a report.A study of the buildings last year revealed they had relatively low scores on the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) scale - and now efforts could be made to improve scores, HV News reports.
The news provider notes that BREEAM compliance efforts are set to develop in the autumn, with MP for West Bromwich Tom Watson being tasked with improving sustainability across government departments.
As well as this, the public sector construction database may also be updated, to include sustainability considerations.
BREEAM offers a range of assessment methods and tools to help construction professionals understand the environmental impacts of new developments. Standards relate to energy, waste, the environment and sustainability. They also apply to both commercial and residential buildings, the organisation notes.
