City of York Council has received government approval for plans to carry out an office refurbishment project at its headquarters.
The BBC reports the £32 million scheme will see the council moving staff into new premises at the West Offices building on Station Rise, enabling the number of offices to be reduced from 16 to four by 2013.
Council chief executive Kersten England said: "The move will enable us to provide improved customer services as well as long-term savings and a more sustainable way of working."
Work is set to get underway on the refurbishment, of what was originally a former railway station in York, by the end of the year.
Elsewhere, council officials recently gave a green light for the construction of thousands of square feet of office space the Wirral Waters project in Merseyside.
In total, the project is set to cost £4.5 billion, but is scheduled to deliver up to approximately 15 million sq ft of mixed-use space.
