The government is obliged to provide businesses and the public with a greater degree of clarification concerning how to achieve its green targets over the coming years, it has been claimed.
Presenter of Channel 4's Grand Designs and designer Kevin McCloud said sustainable office design and other measures need to be based on clear information and if this not forthcoming, it could put government times for carbon reduction in jeopardy.
He commented: "The one thing inventors and manufacturers do not like when they're asked to design and develop a product is vagueness. The government's not being precise about targets."
Mr McCloud added that legislation like the 2016 zero carbon directive will help to usher in a new era of innovative design.
According the Federation of Master Builders, almost 44 per cent of its members believe that homeowners are unlikely to take advantage of the green deal when it launches in autumn 2012.
