Green building 'key to future stability'

Sustainable design practices must be sped up in the coming years to ensure climate change does not have a growing impact on the future of UK building, one sustainability expert has argued.
Lucy Pedler, director of the Green Register, said that green building growth must step up a gear in the future or face being outpaced by the effects of global climate change.
She commented: "The increase has been slow but steady. It is, however, too slow to adequately deal with the incredible challenges that climate change presents to us."
According to figures compiled by NextGen Research, the worldwide green building materials market was valued at $455.3 billion (£282.2 billion) in 2008. However, this figure is set to increase to $571 billion by 2013.
The sustainable building initiative is being embraced by all sectors that are looking to improve their green credentials and help reduce the impact of climate change.
