Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) has announced plans to sub-let office space at its Inverness headquarters to commercial businesses.
It marks the first time that the government agency has advertised any part of Great Glen House commercially.
Two public bodies - the Crofters Commission and Paths for All Partnership - already rent office interiors in the building.
But a second floor area of 455sq m (4,898sq ft) will now be made available to commercial firms after SNH decided it was surplus to requirements.
SNH corporate services director Joe Moore said the new space planning scheme was part of the group’s ongoing bid to make the publicly-owned building "more environmentally, operationally and financially efficient".
Great Glen House was voted the UK’s best corporate workplace by the British Council for Offices in 2007.
Judges praised the site for its welcoming atmosphere to members of the public and staff.
