A Lancashire council could be forced to halve its level of office space due to cutbacks in the coming months, it has been revealed.

According to the Need Office Space blog, the council could reduce its office commitments if staff are allocated less space in which to work - as this would help make savings and could help save the jobs of many workers.

"This is an important issue for us right now, because we anticipate a reduction in the workforce as a result of the general reduction in public sector spending," council leader councillor Peter Britcliffe said.

Meanwhile, Construction Enquirer recently reported that Derby City Council has announced plans for a new headquarters that could cost up to £34 million.

The council has been in its present office space since the Second World War and hopes the new premises will help improve sustainability for the organisation and boost its staffing capacity from 500 to 1,900.
