IBM announces Heathrow office relocation

Global software developer IBM has announced plans to downsize its UK office by moving into new premises near Heathrow.
The company currently occupies 110,000 sq ft of office space at Bedfont Lakes Office Park in Middlesex. However, its lease is due to expire in the first quarter of 2012.
As a result, the company is looking to carry out an office relocation in the months ahead, but feels it requires less in terms of sq ft in the future and has earmarked eight sites between 60-80,000 sq ft in and around Heathrow and Reading.
"We have been in discussions with IBM and we are aware that they have been in the market to understand what is currently available," a spokeswoman for the Scottish Widows Investment Partnership group said.
IBM reported annual revenues of $95.8 billion (£66.3 billion) in 2009 and net income of $13.4 billion. It presently controls assets valued in the region of $109 billion and employs 400,000 people worldwide.
