JCB moves to new £40m Uttoxeter site

Construction firm JCB has moved its heavy construction facilities and accompanying office interiors to a new £40 million site, it has been revealed.Builder and Engineer has reported that the company is set to house its Heavy Products division at a new 450,000 sq ft site in Uttoxeter.
"The new Heavy Products factory represents an opportunity for JCB to grow its tracked and wheeled excavator business substantially once the global construction markets have recovered from the downturn currently being experienced," commented Matthew Taylor, group chief executive.
According to the Birmingham Post, JCB has said that it plans to axe up to 650 employees from its UK workforce which currently stands at around 5,900 people when it moves to its new facilities.
Over 150 office and shopfloor workers have already transferred to the new development, with a further 400 set to move in the near future.
