"Jewel-like" London office building planned
11-08-2008
A structure with a "jewel-like" office layout is due to be built on London's southbank after the approval of a planning application.Due to be highly visible from the Westminster Bridge and Parliament Square the structure will be situated on the River Thames, web resource Builder & Engineer Online notes.
It will be 18 storeys high and the first building in the capital to incorporate a complete double skin.
The site notes: "It will feature a double-layered glass shell around the core offices - the metre of air between the layers insulates the inner tube from temperature fluctuations."
Other features of the structure will include an 110,000 sq ft roof terrace, of which 60 per cent will be planted to encourage biodiversity and further insulate the interior.
The project is due to be completed in 2011.
Meanwhile, New Builder recently reported that Islington council has installed a wind turbine on a tower block on City Road in Finsbury.
