Heron Tower in the City of London is due for completion next year and has had a provisional BREEAM rating awarded.
When completed, the 46-storey property will provide 46,000 sq ft of office space and has been awarded a BREEAM rating of Excellent.
The property is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2011 and will incorporate photovoltaic cells to produce renewable energy, while the building's triple skin will help to reduce heat loss by up to 45 per cent.
It is being constructed by Skanska and was designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox.
Elsewhere, Samuel Keehn, LEED AP and environmental and sustainability manager at Energy Management Services, recently recommended that businesses looking to improve their environmental credentials should look to monitor five key areas.
These are: the site, water efficiency, energy consumption, materials and air quality.
He added that engaging with design consultants is a good way to get an overall understanding of sustainable design.
