Manchester city council has announced plans to relocate its 1,400 staff to Ask Development's Number One First Street during the refurbishment of the main town hall complex.
The council will take on 140,000 sq ft of office interior space at the development from January 2010 until December 2012 while office refurbishment work is carried out on the main council buildings.
The refurbishment of the town hall is expected to cost £175 million and will take approximately three years to complete.
John Hughes, director at Ask Developments, said: "We are delighted with this decision, which is extremely positive news for First Street. The Number One building is the first phase of this major redevelopment which is set to transform this important area of the city centre."
Meanwhile, the Co-op recently announced it is to build a new 16-storey headquarters in Manchester which will benefit from a number of modern office and sustainable design features.
