Work at the landmark St Peter's Square project in Manchester could be set to get underway in the near future after developer Argent issued a tender for the design and build contract of the scheme.

Situated on the site of Elizabeth House, the office construction project will see the creation of 270,000 sq ft of office interior space and is set to cost £120 million.

The initiative is being carried out as a joint venture between Argent and the Greater Manchester Property Venture Fund.

"A great deal of activity has been taking place in the background recently, leading up to the submission of the notice - and we are very excited to be on our way to appointing a contractor for the scheme," James Nicholson, development manager at Argent, commented.

He added that the developers are hoping to reduce the risk of the project by encouraging pre-lettings at the site, with the hope of leasing between 70,000-80,000 sq ft by the time the building is ready for use.

Elsewhere in the Greater Manchester area, financial recruitment firm Howarth Morris recently announced the opening of a new office on Marsland Road, Sale.
