Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have started moving into a new headquarters in Newton Heath, in the north-east of the city.
Rochdale News reported the project has cost £64 million but has delivered a 240,000 sq ft modern office design building that has achieved a BREEAM rating of Excellent.
Key features of the six-storey building will be its visibility from Piccadilly and the fact it will glow blue at night. It will replace GMP's former headquarters in Old Trafford and the force hopes to be fully moved into the new premises by the start of 2011.
Chief constable Peter Fahy told the publication: "This modern, fit for purpose headquarters will encourage team-working and improve communication to enable us to work more efficiently and get the most value from our tightening budget."
Elsewhere in the city, workforce management software firm Protime WFM recently set up its first UK office interior at Manchester Science Park.
The company already runs offices in Belgium, Holland and France, but worked with UK Trade & Investment and Manchester's inward investment agency MIDAS to set up this new property.
