Sir Robert McAlpine is to carry out design work for a new office construction project in Rochdale.
The £55 million project is being carried out on behalf of Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council and, once completed, will see the local authority move into the new premises.
In total, the new premises will house approximately 2,000 council staff and will offer office space ranging from 250,000 to 320,000 sq ft. The project is due to get underway in the near future, with a scheduled completion date of Autumn 2012.
Once moved in to the new building, the former council municipal buildings are to be demolished.
Meanwhile, West Dorset District Council has announced it is to go ahead with its proposed office relocation plans to new premises at a cost of £10.7 million.
District council chief executive David Clarke said: "The planning application for the Charles Street site will be submitted soon. I would invite everyone to study the plans and give their views on the planning merits."
